Why I’m an Acupuncturist

When I discovered the healing benefits of traditional acupuncture, from having treatment myself I said to my practitioner, “I need to do what you do!” It was a profound combination of five element and traditional Chinese medicine.

I had begun my recovery and had a deep inclination to learn and help others who have been suffering unnecessarily. I’d been passed from pillar to post via the GPs and been through the many facets of the conventional medical system, including physio acupuncture, and years later, I still had pain and debilitating problems from the trauma of a motorway car accident. Like many, I wanted a natural drug-free approach to getting better. An osteopath had referred me onwards to see the traditional acupuncturist who really listened and understood my whole health picture, and the elegance of the treatments were inspiring. My pain completely disappeared and I became calm, relaxed and increasingly motivated. It was literally life-changing.

In Safe, Qualified Hands

After several intensive, fascinating and rewarding years studying Five Element and Traditional Chinese Medicine (at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine) by 2011, I was fully qualified with a BSc (Honours) Degree and Licentiate in Acupuncture. During this time I trained in needling techniques, cupping, moxibustion, guasha, tui-na massage and qigong for patients. I have since trained as a paediatric acupuncturist and have specialised in the treatment of children and teenagers, but I do of course treat adults too. I am a fully insured member of the British Acupuncture Council who monitors the safe and ethical practice of acupuncturists in the UK (www.acupuncture.org.uk).

Experience and expertise

I have had additional training in Chaoyi Fanhuan Qigong and practice meditation and yoga.  I trust in and advocate the dietary wisdom that is fundamental to Chinese medicine and which supplements times of healing.  Since I began practicing I have treated expectant mothers and given training to couples for Acupressure in Childbirth (having used these methods myself).

The longevity of this medical system is reassuring and the capacity for the human body and mind to heal never ceases to amaze me. When that happens I believe we also discover and accept our true nature and our paths become clear.
